NameTony Lambert LocationOneida,Tn. CommentsHey Bobby, I'm the little boy across the highway you used to ride motorcycles with. Congrats on the awards, I thought you were crazy for chasing that old electric calf around. I've never been that smart anyway. I'd love to here from you. You were a hero to me since you was a middle school quarter-back and I was the running back on the 5th grade team at Clarksville. Hollar at me sometime. I,m a PE Teacher and H.S. Football Coach. My email is tlambert@oneidaschools.org
NameTony Lambert LocationOneida,Tn. CommentsBobby and I were friends when we were kids. I was a little fifth grader that lived across the highway from the Hurleys in a trailer. Bobby and I would ride our motorcycles together, and I thought he was crazy for wanting to practice roping that electric cow. Way to go Bobby!!!!! Like to hear from you. tlambert@oneidaschools.org

NameAmy S Norris LocationMichigan CommentsI ended up with Pale Leader Bertie. One of your colts. He was a rescue from going to a slaughter house. What can you tell me about him? If you even remember anything at all? Age 16 now a gorgeous Buttermilk Buckskin gelding. He is listed on my website. http://www.farmanimalrescue.com
NameWayne Dunn LocationTN CommentsHello All.........It's been a while. Thought you might enjoy a brief update from 88 Ranch (aka: Hurley East). We're now on our third generation of BH horses. We lost "Junior" to an apparent heat attack in 2005, but fortunately kept a nice colt by him out of one of the best mares. "LJ" is 10, and the oldest ones by him are 4. Daughter Jessi is running barrels on 2 of them, Brad Kincaid hauled his gelding to the first roping several weeks ago and won $800.00 and change, Kevin Shumake is roping both ends on his filly, etc., etc. I have a really nice 3 year old in training, and she's going to both ends pretty sharp. Sold "Willie", the last son of Junior to Tom Bourne. I hauled him last year along with Scott Lund, and he went to the World Show on both ends as a 5 year old, qualied for the Bayer Select World, is a Superior heel horse and lacks 7 points being Superior head horse. Tom showed him quite a bit, needed a really good one, so I let him have him. We continue to breed 10 to 12 of our own mares each year. A very productive cross has been LJ on his half sisters. Also am keeping a couple of fillies by the Duster Hancock/Smugs Norfleet Bar horse. Haven't ridden any of them yet, as they are weanlings. We're getting so concentrated in the Smugs, (a good thing!) that we have a pretty neat outcross stud. He's by Gallo Del Cielo (sire of winners of 5.1 million in cowhorse and reining) and out of a Doc's Oak daughter. J D Yates rode him for us a bit last year, got his Superior in heading, lacks just a few in heeling, and was the Circuit Champion Junior Head Horse, reserve Circuit Champion Junior Heel Horse, and Circuit Champion Rope Horse at the Tulsa Holiday Circuit last summer. Took him to the World show on both ends last year. Should be a really neat cross on the double bred Smug mares; the oldest being a yearling we really like, and a couple of weanlings. Congrats to Bobby on the HOF; a bunch of good Smugs along the years should probably also share the honor! God bless you all. Wayne Dunn 88 Ranch

NameLaurie Jennings Holum LocationEnterprise,Oregon CommentsJust looken at some memories and to say hello and hope you are all doing well.
NameFred Eleanor DeAnna Diwan LocationArizona CommentsThis last Monday we had to put down the last of our BH horses- Gatlin -Zipp Smuggler Cat at age 29. For the first time in 24 year we do not have a BH horse on our place. (might have to plan a trip). We would like to think Mr. Bob and Dale Meeks for entrusting us with three of the greatest horse a person could ask for. I was eight years old the first time I went to the Hurley ranch and personally picked out a horse. Mr Bob led him out to me in a pink halter. That horse went on to be one of Arizona top pole horses. Thank you
NameLeeAnne LocationAK CommentsSorry to see 2 of your great studs deceased. Also sad to see most of your old brood mares gone. One was my fillys dam (smugs kitten). I check your website often to keep updated as I hope to purchase another horse from you in the distant future. The filly we have now was bred on your ranch and is exceptional in temperment, willingness, and has outstanding confirmation. She is definitely her fathers (smugs rawhide) daughter a little brick with loads of potential. In Alaska the horse market is not affected like in the lower 48. Horses still fetch top dollar here and are still in demand. I love your website and would like to thank you for breeding quality not quantity like so many others do. Have a wonderful 2009 and good luck in your upcoming ventures.
NameJohn Snell LocationOklahoma CommentsEnjoyed seeing the picture of SKY CASH COUP's sire. He and "Blue" look a lot alike. I've still got him and he's making some really good babies. JDSnell

NameSammie Brown LocationCHARLESTON,AR CommentsGreat Website! Congrats Bobby
NameLA Pomeroy LocationMA CommentsA pleasure and privilege to visit the website, and to intrvw BH for The Score magazine. As a resident of the huntseat-heavy East Coast (where I started reining in the 1970s w/ an ex-over fences mare), I am watching as cow work ever so slowly is growing in interest here. I'm amazed at the sale prices for these goodbred BH horses -- at $2000 in the northeast you can't buy anything, much less a youngster w/ this kind of talent/pedigree. Junk reiners are going for $7500-$10,000, already ridden too hard too early and with maybe another year left to their stifles. It's also heartening to talk to men who let horses' knees close and give them time to grow up before they work them - out here if they haven't packed two dozen shows and Futurities on them under saddle by the time they turn three, folks think the horse is worthless (and well, yes, they will be, since by six it's going to be all washed up physically). Keep doin' what you're doin' (you don't need me to tell you that), and as a professional horse journalist for the last 20 yrs who has worked the Olympic Games and written about or for the USET's best riders, all I can say is that some folks who presume to call themselves horsemen can't hold a candle to y'all. But I tell ya, if it's worth the shippin' costs, you could sell more babies, for more money, if you think about tapping into the northeast markets. I know in Massachusetts more barns are offering penning and sorting events, and stock horse show series. And folks ARE looking to buy.

NameMary McCreery LocationAbernathy, TX CommentsVery well put together website. Found it linked to Pretty Pony Ranch, home of BH Hancocks Star. I am looking forward to breeding my mare to 'Maverick' soon and wanted to check out his birthplace. It was a great surprise to be able to see photos of his parents. Of course, I just had to see what was in the sale barn. I probably shouldn't have done that. Now I want one. Best wishes for continued success. Mary McCreery and Keith Markham 'future owners of a BH Ranch bred horse'

NameTodd C. Wooten LocationDerby, KS CommentsI am the proud owner of a 25 yr old Hurley horse. I have hauled him to US roping, jackpots and practice pens all over. He has been my teacher and because of him my love for the sport of Team roping has become a huge part of my life. His name is Bert and he is the best thing that has ever happened to my roping career. If you are looking for a horse that will hold up over the years you are at the right place!! There is something to be said for people that breed for bone and not just a pretty head. I told my wife one of these days I’m going to go to the Hurley Ranch and buy a colt with hopes of one day making him just as good as Ole Bert. Just this year we made the trip to AR. I have to tell you we were both very impressed, what a set up. You cannot beat the help that we got from Dave. Talk about a group of people that know what to breed for. I have never seen such naturally muscled up colts. Their studs are to die for. All in all I have to say that I am 100% satisfied with my choice in purchasing a BH colt this year. We wanted to thank Dave and all the people that put in all the hard work through the year for the beautiful experience. You guys breed for what every horse owner is looking for. A level- headed horse with lots of bone mass that will last for many years under the tough conditions of the roping world. Thanks guys!!! We wish you continued success!!! Todd, Heather and Lexi Wooten (Derby, KS)
