We Choose Joy
One of our core values is having a positive attitude. We value positivity, thinking positive and positive enthusiasm. Noah and I are also the same enneagram number which is 7, the ‘Enthusiast’ so that could be why.
It’s something we aim to work at daily. Living in positivity requires working your mental health muscles. With everything that is going on in the world with the Coronovirus pandemic, it’s ok to feel frustrated and anxious. Those are normal feelings right now. But instead of staying there and getting more depressed, becoming negative and turning to negative coping mechanisms, it’s good to stop yourself and take a break from the media.
One thing I relate this to is like when our toddler asks for a sugary treat or to watch just one more TV show when its time to go outside and play we change the subject and try to get her excited about playing a game outside, using her T-ball set and playing catch or a game of tag. This is one of those times where watching the news can start you down the deep dark rabbit hole of negativity and you need to stop, “change the subject” and do something else.
One thing we did last night after we found out about the extension of the shut down was we decided to go for a family hike. We hiked back to the spot where we go deer hunting and are planning to put a deer stand where we can enjoy nature as a family. Thank goodness for our friends whose property its on.
Nature combined with exercise is a great way to lift your spirits and think about all the things we’re grateful for and helps us to keep reaching for joy.
