Why Hurley Ranch? And why have a horse on our logo?
Known as Hurley Ranch, we are a combined home building company (Hurley Homes) and real estate brokerage (Hurley Realty) owned by husband-wife team Noah and Becky Hurley. Noah is the general contractor of the home building division and Becky carries the real estate brokers license to list and sell our new construction homes as well as help realty clients buy and sell existing homes. We call our business, Hurley Ranch- Homes and Realty. When we meet people who don’t know our business and see the logo on our shirts and the horseshoe necklace Becky wears they have sometimes asked us if we have a horse ranch. This has made us question if we should’ve put a house instead of the horse on our logo but then we are reminded of our why.
Why Hurley Ranch and why the horse?
We come from rural farming backgrounds here in south central and southwest Wisconsin. Noah is local to Evansville and Becky grew up on a farm near Arena, Wisconsin. Farming is in our blood. It is our roots. We want to honor our rural values and heritage in our business. Thats why we called it Hurley Ranch. The horse on the logo represents that as well. Becky grew up riding, training and showing horses. Her family used to ride horses to herd their cattle down the road between summer and winter pastures as well as many trail rides over thousands of acres of rolling hills and ridge tops.
Fun fact: she also worked on a ranch in Montana at age 18 where she was helped manage 13 horses and mules, 250 beef cows and calves on a 3,000 acre ranch. As a side note, during that time she also built over 1 mile worth of a 5-wire barbed fence and was recruited to work for a fence building company instead of head back to Wisconsin to go to college. She declined the offer and went to college instead.
We currently live in a 100 + year old remodeled farmhouse on 13 acres near Brooklyn, Wisconsin. In our free time we raise a few beef cows, chickens and have a large garden where we enjoy making canned goods like pickles, tomato juice, okra, dilly beans, jam and more! We also have pond with fish, a few barn cats, a dog, a mini-horse and soon a riding horse for Becky.
This is our sanctuary away from the daily stresses of work. In this strange time during the Covid 19 pandemic where the future of the housing business (or any business for that matter) is uncertain, we have learned that having this space away from it all is our way to connect back with our personal values. This is especially important now more than ever. It helps us remember who we are and why we are doing what we do.
We love rural living and want to reflect that in the homes we build and the work we do.
